North West indiepop trio Mondegreen, are set to release their latest single, The Avenue to all major digital platforms from 4 December 2020 via Mai 68 Records.

There’s a pre-release listen below.

Mondegreen are a Widnes, UK born indie pop trio.

Comprising sisters Laura and Leanne Griffiths and childhood best friend Claire Smith, the band has been described as folk-tinged indie pop with formidable harmonies and guitars.

Having all grown up unapologetically on girl bands and with Laura and Claire picking up acoustic guitars back in primary school, teenage summers soundtracked by punk and indie rock mix tapes planted the seeds for writing music, and as sisters sharing a room, Leanne’s interest quickly followed.

The Avenue is a contemplative track that takes the early 2000’s indie-influenced tone of previous single Winter and longs for the need to escape from the pressures and fears of modern life and return to a place where you feel grounded and safe.

Taking inspiration from a rich seam of varied influences, from the alternative folk of First Aid Kit and Laura Marling, along with nostalgic guitar that harks back to the halcyon times and culture of the Midwest Emo scene.

Likened to female groups such as Haim and The Chicks, their sound is rooted in various genres with a shared love for the lyrics of Idlewild; Imogen Heap’s layered sound influencing Laura and Claire’s harmonies; the dream pop vocals of Wolf Alice for Laura; the honest lyrics of Amanda Shires and Jason Isbell for Claire, and the prevalent vibe of 90’s Emo.

The Avenue will be available in all the usual places on 4 December 2020, but you can get a preview now.
